We’ve been waiting for a long time for an update on Rockstar’s highly-anticipated GTA 6. The company has now confirmed that it has shifted focus to the development of the next chapter in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, but at the cost of further improvement of Red Dead Online.
‘Over the past few years, we have been steadily moving more development resources towards the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series – understanding more than ever the need to exceed players’ expectations and for this next entry to be the best it can possibly be and as a result, we are in the process of making some changes to how we support Red Dead Online.’
The fanbase of Red Dead 2 has not taken well to the news that the western-themed game is essentially now on life support. Fans even announced an in-game funeral to be held for the live component of RDR2 to mark what many now see as ‘one year of RDR2 being abandoned’. Rockstar maintains that minor improvements will still make their way into the game, but that there won’t be any more ‘major themed content updates like in previous years.’
‘Instead, Red Dead Online players should expect events highlighting existing content, plus “seasonal special events and experience improvements.’
Fans of Rockstar’s most popular franchise, however, are chomping at the bit for more information and potential release dates for the highly-anticipated GTA VI. We previously covered that this next title could be the most ambitious title in gaming history, potentially taking place over numerous continents.
While Rockstar has been focussing on developing GTA VI, however, numerous aspects of Red Dead Redemption seem to have been forgotten and have not won the developer any respect from fans of the game. One of the more prominent fan-run Twitter accounts for the game, Red Dead News, has taken to the social media platform to voice its discontentment with the way the developer has handled the franchise of late.
While we sympathize with Red Dead’s fan base, we stand in eager anticipation for the next iteration of Grand Theft Auto and how many of our predictions will come to fruition.
